Modern Felt Resources Suzanne has developed a full line of felting patterns. They can be seen on the felting page of Pufpaffs Fiber Processing.
This is not a complete list of all the felting resources currently available, but it is a place to start you journey down the feltmakers road. New Directions for Felt an Ancient Craft by Gunilla Paetau Sjoberg as translated by Pat Spark, Interweave Press, Loveland, CO 1996. Excellent all around felting book.
Fundamentals of Feltmaking by Patricia Spark, Shuttle Craft Books, 1989 This book has been revised and expanded and is still a classic beginning felting book.
Scandinavian-Style Feltmaking by Patricia Spark, Shuttle Craft Books, 1992. Good book for beginning 3-D work.
The Art of Feltmaking by Anne Einset Vickrey, Watson-Guptill Publications, New York, 1997 Good book for projects to do with children.
Exploring Felting by Joan Fisher, Kangaroo Press, Australia, 1997. This is a great idea book. It covers a lot of different types of projects. I had to get it because Joan included me in the USA instructor section.
How to make Felt by Anne Belgrave, Search Press, England, 1995. Great pictures, not on my list of must haves.
Filt I Form by Birgitte Krag Hansen, Host & Son, Denmark, 1998. Fine Fiber Press now has an English Translation of the words available but it requires purchasing the Danish version for the graphics. Now with an English translation by Pat Spark.. If you are interested in 3-D felting, this one is a must.
Feltmaking, The Whys and Wherefores by Sheila Smith and Freda Walker, Dalefelt Publications, Great Britain, 1995. This is a great resource book for a lot of the technical information. If you are the kind of person who is interested in the whys and how comes, this book is for you. I would not consider this one of the first felting books to get.
Nineteenth Century Hat Maker's and Felter's Manuals compiled by Suzanne Pufpaff, Self published, 1995. This is a reprint of two nineteenth century hat makers manuals. If you are interested in historic technique and the development of the hatmaking industry, this is an excellent book.
Feltmaking, Techniques and Projects by Inge Evers, Lark Books, Asheville, North Carolina, 1984. One of the first books on felting printed in the US and still a classic. New Crafts Feltwork by Victoria Brown, Lorenz Books, London, 1996. Covers some of the "other" techniques for making felt and fulled fabric. Good idea book..
Felt Craft, Hand Crafted felt from fleece to finished projects by Sue Freeman. ,David and Charles Publishers, plc, Britain. 1988. Another one of the early books available on felting. I think it is now out of print. Good idea book but not worth a great search. The Art of the Felt Maker by Mary E. Burkett Reprinted in 1999. Originally published in 1979 by Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal, England. Excellent overview of the history and cultural background of felting.
A New Look at Felt by Elyse and Mike Sommer Crown Publishers, Inc, New York, 1975 Good if you would like to see how far felt making has come since it was published.
